Insulfrax Soluble Fiber Products For High Temperature Insulation
Unifrax Corporation has manufactured refractory ceramic fiber high temperature insulation products since 1942. However, with Directive 97/69/EC, the European Community established new regulations for synthetic glass fibers that requires users to seek more soluble alternatives to refractory ceramic fiber. Insulfrax soluble fiber complies with the European standard for fiber solubility. Insulfrax fiber is now available in several product forms to solve a range of high temperature insulation and heat processing problems:
Insulfrax (unchopped) Bulk Fiber
Insulfrax chopped Bulk Fiber
Insulfrax 1800 Blankets
Insulfrax Marine Blanket (US Coast Guard approved)
Insulfrax Anchor-Loc ® 1800 modules & Insulfrax Bonded 1800 modules
Insulfrax Paper
Insulfrax fiber is also used in Fyrewrap ® duct insulation

Insulfrax Soluble Fiber Properties & Applications
|
Insulfrax calcium-magnesium-silicate fiber is recommended for continuous use at temperatures up to 1000°C (1832°F), and exhibits improved in-vitro solubility characteristics compared to Fiberfrax refractory ceramic fibers. Insulfrax meets European regulatory requirements for synthetic vitreous high temperature insulation fibers.
Insulfrax products are characterized by, low thermal conductivity, low heat storage, excellent thermal shock resistance, light weight and flexibility. These properties make Insulfrax products ideal for application as high temperature insulation. Insulfrax also exhibits superior wetting resistance to corrosive molten aluminum alloys than traditional alumino-silicate fibers.
Insulfrax products are used in a wide range of applications including refractory linings, high temperature insulation & gasketing, heat shields & fire protection, and also molten metals transfer. Insulfrax high temperature insulation is widely applied in manufacture and industry, including: metals processing, petrochemical, power, and ceramics & glass.

Insulfrax 1800 Blankets |
Insulfrax 1800 Blankets are available in thicknesses from 0.5 - 2.0in, and densities from 4 - 8pcf. Mechanical needling of the Insulfrax fibers enhances the products tensile strength and eliminates the need for binders. This results in no outgassing or smoke generation upon heating Insulfrax 1800 blanket. Insulfrax 1800 blanket is classified per UL 723 (ASTM E-84) Flame Spread Rating = 0, Smoke Developed Rating = 0. Insulfrax 1800 blanket is applied as high temperature insulation in the metal, petrochemical / power, ceramic & glass production industries - as well as in fire protection.

Insulfrax Marine Blanket is specifically designed to provide passive fire protection for marine applications. Insulfrax Marine Blanket allows for thermal and acoustical insulation with reduced structural weight. Insulfrax Marine Blanket is US Coast Guard approved for Steel and Aluminum vessels, complies with SOLAS safety objectives, and IMO FTP Code Fire Test Requirements. Insulfrax Marine Blanket is used to insulate bulkheads and decks on commercial and military vessels and also offshore structures.

Insulfrax 1800 Modules |
Insulfrax Anchor-Loc ® 1800 Modules are highly insulating units with multiple-attachment options designed to allow easy application on furnace walls, kilns, etc. Insulfrax Anchor-Loc modules are manufactured in a range of sizes and several densities. Compared with traditional refractory furnace linings, Insulfrax 1800 high temperature insulation modules provide several advantages - including: rapid temperature cycling, lower heat storage, lower fuel costs, increased productivity, lower installed cost, and rapid & easy repair.Insulfrax Anchor-Loc 1800 modules are used in heat-treatment / annealing / process furnace linings, slab & ingot covers, Aluminum homogenizing furnace linings & ladle covers, personnel heat shields, flue stack & duct linings, and field steam generator linings.
Insulfrax Anchor-Loc 1800 Modules can be fitted with various Unifrax attachment options: Thread-Loc ®, Screw-Loc ®, Power-Loc ®, and Weld-Loc ® Systems.
Insulfrax Bonded 1800 Modules can either be mortared into place - as a hot face veneer over existing refractory, or installed with Hefty-Lock hardware - as a full thickness lining. Typical applications for Insulfrax Bonded 1800 high temperature insulation modules include heat-treatment furnaces, Aluminum processing furnaces and process heaters. Insulfrax Bonded 1800 modules are also applied with the Hefty Lock system in a wide range of applications, up to 1000°C (1832°F), including: stacks, ducts & flue linings, fume incinerators, etc.
